Rusty’s journey into ministry was anything but conventional. He was first introduced to the role by surprise when he was announced as the new youth leader—without prior notice! Rising to the challenge, Rusty led a vibrant and well-known youth group that quickly became a staple across the valley. Under his guidance, the group attended several National Youth Gatherings and various regional events. On some weekends, up to 50 teens would come together to participate in Rusty's signature blend of fun and fellowship.
As the years went by, many former youth members continued to stay involved even after aging out. Recognizing an opportunity, Rusty embraced the idea of forming a young adult group. This new group began by planning unique services on months with a fifth Saturday, featuring fresh worship formats, alternative music, and messages delivered by Rusty. The young adult ministry quickly expanded, eventually hosting weekly services in a small back classroom. This group grew steadily until it was paused in 2020 due to the pandemic.
Not one to let obstacles stand in the way, Rusty reached out to the church council with a vision of starting a new church community. And so, UR Church was born.
Rusty is happily married to his wife, Lara, who is often by his side in services, along with their four sons. Together, they form a lively and cherished part of the UR Church family.
